The Andersen Foundation established an endowed scholarship in remembrance of Ellen MacNeil and Ray Freda.
Ellen MacNeil
To honor Ellen MacNeil’s life, the Andersen Foundation and Ellen’s family have established an endowed scholarship in Ellen’s name, made possible by Andersen employees’ generous donations. We are truly humbled to honor her life and uphold her values of compassion, stewardship and integrity with this endowed scholarship, which will provide financial assistance and make an impact for future generations of students.
Christine Ellen MacNeil (Ellen) was a beloved wife to William (Bill) Scher, mother to William (Will) and James, and grandmother to Emma, Charlotte, and Leah. Ellen led a life full of love, family, and joy. Passionate about sports, Ellen played basketball in high school and later loved nothing more than watching her children’s games, many of which were coached by her husband Bill. At their local church, Ellen served many years on the Altar Guild along with Bill being on the Church Vestry, and her sons being acolytes. Ellen had a long tenure in federal income tax, previously serving as a leader for national tax at Deloitte before coming to Andersen and leading the Firm’s U.S. National Tax practice.
Ray Freda
The Andersen Foundation established an endowed scholarship in remembrance of Ray Freda, former Andersen Managing Director. The Andersen community and Ray’s family have currently raised over $310,000 for this scholarship. The scholarship will make a profound impact for students seeking higher education and reflect Ray’s passion for learning.
I know how much Ray would have loved supporting future students with great academic potential. This scholarship will serve as a living tribute to his kind and generous spirit, providing opportunities for others and reflecting the compassion he shared with so many. – Joy L. Freda, Spouse
